Armenians, Orthodox and the Feast of Our Lady of Health (with navigation)

Participants for this new NET experience will meet at Venice Santa Lucia Station, where our guide and a private boat transfer will be waiting for us!

Sailing through the Giudecca Canal, we will admire the historic palaces that characterize the beauty of Venice and part of the southern lagoon, until we reach the island of San Lazzaro degli Armeni, a place of great spirituality and culture, home to one of the oldest Armenian communities in the world. A visit to the island will offer the opportunity to discover its monastery, library full of precious manuscripts, and museum.

Back in the St. Mark’s area, we will continue with a stop to admire the beautiful Orthodox Church of San Giorgio dei Greci, a fascinating example of Orthodox religious architecture in the heart of Venice, with its splendid mosaics and sacred icons.

Instead, for lunch we will go to a typical Venetian restaurant, where we will be served the traditional castradina, a historic dish of mutton or sheep meat, typical of the Feast of Our Lady of Health.

In the afternoon, we will make our way to the Votivo Bridge, specially built for this holiday, and cross it to the majestic Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, the city’s symbol of devotion, erected as thanksgiving for the end of the plague of 1630. After a short visit inside the basilica, with its masterpieces of art, we will take a stroll through the Venetian streets of Dorsoduro, enjoying the city’s unique atmosphere, until we return toward Santa Lucia Station to end the day.
