Canova, Asolo and Brion: a journey between art and poetry

07:00 am Bus departure from Trieste, Piazza Oberdan (*) to Veneto.

Arrival in Possagno and guided tour of the Antonio Canova Gypsotheca Museum, the place that preserves the historical and artistic legacy of the greatest sculptor of the Neoclassical period. The museum complex, one of the first in the Veneto region, consists of the Birth House and the Gypsotheca, located in the original basilica and extension designed by Carlo Scarpa, which houses the original plaster models from which the marbles that are now found in the world’s most important museums were translated. The Birth House houses paintings, drawings, engravings and the artist’s personal effects.

Continuation of visits with the Canovian Temple, Possagno’s parish church, designed in the early 19th century by the famous sculptor and painter Antonio Canova. Today it houses the Pieta group and the artist ‘ s tomb.

Lunch at a restaurant.

Transfer to Asolo and guided walk through the town center. Asolo, a jewel set among the hills of the Marca Trevigiana, is known as the “city of a hundred horizons.” This charming historic town has preserved intact the charm of ancient medieval villages.

Continuation of visits with the Brion Memorial: the last work of Carlo Scarpa, among his most complex, original, significant and cherished, it was built between 1970 and 1978, the year of the architect’s death in Japan, and completed on his designs. The monumental memorial complex, a masterpiece of 20th-century architecture now a FAI property, is nestled in the Treviso countryside against the backdrop of the Asolo hills.

At the end of the visit start the return journey, arriving in Trieste in the evening.
